What: Permission to use JSBSim aircraft models, by original author of JSBSim ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Jon S. Berndt Sent: Thursday, June 22, 2023 10:08 AM To: Mahesh Madhav Subject: RE: JSBSim aircraft models for SPEC CPUv8 Hi, Mahesh, Thanks for the update. I have no objections. I also believe that there is no issue with you including the models in a product you sell, as long as the same thing is freely available for download. The point is that there is no problem with a compilation of useful programs being sold, as long as the constituent components are still available elsewhere. That is, people may want the convenience of having it all available in one product, perhaps with some additional separate products included alongside. That's my understanding, anyhow. Berndt Subject: JSBSim aircraft models for SPEC CPUv8 Hi Jon, I am summarizing our recent license discussion from the email thread with subject line: -> (cpuv8entries-49) CPUv8 Search Program Submission: JSBSim The aircraft models (e.g. 737.xml and B747.xml) that are distributed with JSBSim contain the lines: -> GPL (General Public License) -> This simulation model is not endorsed by the manufacturer. This model is -> not to be sold. We agree that GPL allows software to be sold commercially, and the LGPL-2.1 distribution of JSBSim also allows commercial use at the repository level. However, the second line above is restricting commercial use. To alleviate this restriction, we seek your permission. With regard to the discrepancies in the files located in the jsbsim/aircraft directory, we have discussed that: -> you are the copyright owner -> you understand that SPEC does offer benchmark products for commercial sale -> you grant SPEC permission to include the unmodified aircraft models within SPEC benchmark products If my understanding is correct, please forward this note back to me indicating your agreement. Thank you for your willingness to clarify this issue, Mahesh
