SPECapc releases new benchmark for
workstations running Solidworks 2019
SPEC’s Application Performance Characterization (SPECapc) project group has released new performance evaluation software for systems running Dassault Systemes' Solidworks 2019 CAD/CAM application. The benchmark, designed to run on Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit platforms, includes 10 updated and new tests exercising a full range of graphics and CPU functionality.
When it comes to PCs vs. workstations,
looks and behavior can be deceiving
There’s a line of reasoning that goes like this: If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it’s probably a duck. The assumption is that something can be identified by its characteristics and unique behavior.
But, as we all know, looks and behavior can be deceiving.
Such is the case with a PC vs. a workstation. They can look the same, often process the same, display the same, but they are two different beasts. Read more in Jon Peddie Research's Graphic Speak.
More misconceptions about workstation performance
Assuming a high-end gaming PC should perform as well on CAD or digital content creation as it does on gaming...mischaracterization of common bottlenecks...considering only graphics performance in purchasing decisions...putting too much weight on big benchmark scores...an inability to shift focus to other aspects of performance.
Read what the experts say on major misconceptions about workstation performance.
